Thanks to the outrage of concerned citizens like you, the Senate has removed a loophole that allows some illegal aliens to qualify for tax-rebate checks.
The fix requires that anyone eligible for a rebate envisioned in the House-passed stimulus package must have a valid Social Security number rather than an Individual Tax Identification Number. The House measure expressly blocked "non-resident aliens," but the majority of illegal aliens in the United States are believed to be included as "resident aliens" under the IRS statutes. Resident aliens can get an ITIN, pay taxes and file tax returns. While this change is a vast improvement, it does not address the continuing problem of illegal aliens using fake Social Security numbers. There must be communication between the IRS and Social Security Administration to solve this systemic problem. Let your Senators know that you appreciate this improvement and feel strongly that illegal aliens should not benefit from this economic stimulus package. American citizens should be our government's priority. |
